From Pablo's perspective...It all started with a job interview. Well that's what I told Chantal's
parents was the reason I was going to visit them in South Carolina, and
the 22nd of November was close enough to Thanksgiving, so it gave me an added
reason to
drop in and say hello for the Holidays. I arrived in the late afternoon
on Saturday, November 22, and Mr. and Mrs. Kuhn picked me up from the
airport in Greenville.
On the drive out from the airport we had
the usual discussion which precedes dinner and revolves around the
question - What do you want to eat? We settled on a little restaurant
just outside Greenville and we went talked a bit about how things were
going. I was starting to get a bit nervous, so after we finished dinner and just before dessert, I asked Mr. Kuhn if I
could marry his daughter.
Both he and Mrs. Kuhn smiled and congratulated me and then I knew I
could ask Chantal.
I left for Paris from Austin a few days after my final exams in school.
Since I intended the engagement to be a surprise, I didn't have an
engagement ring with me, but instead had bought a pair of diamond
earrings for the engagement. I carried these earrings all around Paris
as I waited for the right moment to propose to Chantal. There were
several moments where I almost proposed, but none really felt right.
Then we decided to go to the Champagne region for the weekend and I knew
that I was going to propose that weekend. So we rented a car and drove
to Reims, through the Champagne region, and toured several small,
independent wineries. The first night, we ate at a local restaurant, had
plenty of good wine and when we returned to the bed and breakfast that
we were staying at, I proposed to Chantal. Needless to say that she was
stunned and somewhat shocked, but she said "yes".
