Austin is known as
the "Live Music Capital of the World" and has such a varied mix of
people and culture that the city can simultaneously host a high tech
computer conference as well as a Harley-Davidson motorcycle rally on the
same weekend. Below are some activities we recommend if you find
yourself in Austin for a few days, or with a few hours on your hands.

Austin 360 City Guide - A complete city
guide, including listing activities by type.
"Best of Austin" guides - A
listing of the best that Austin has to offer in terms of food and
drinks, arts & entertainment and several other categories.
The Oasis -
West Austin - Also called the "sunset capital of Texas". The best time
to go is sunset as you'll watch the sun slowly dip behind the hills and
into Lake Austin.
6th Street -
Downtown - After 9:00 pm 6th street becomes a pedestrian street filled
with bars, clubs and restaurants. You'll find all kinds of live music
from Texas Blue, Country, 70's disco to Salsa. See the Austin Chronicle
for a list of the bands that are playing. Our favorite venues: Saxon
Pub, Continental Club, Momos, Antones, Stubb's.
Texas State
History Museum - Downtown - For you history buffs, this is the place
to go if you have ever wondered what was the story behind the six flags
of Texas. They offer a short movie about the story of Texas which is
great.
Town Lake -
Central - Whether you'd like to run a little or maybe take a canoe and
paddle up the river, you enjoy the environment around the lake.
The Salt Lick
- South, in Buda - An old ranch converted into a restaurant where it's
all-you-can-eat barbeque and BYOB. Enough said.
The Harry Ransom
Center - Central Austin - One of the many museums at the University
of Texas. It houses one of the Gutenberg bibles among its many other
pieces of antiquity and art.
